Job Summary:

The post-holder will be responsible for delivering medical input, under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, to patients referred to and accepted for treatment by the service in line with the agreed admission criteria.

The post-holder will work with the MDT in line with models of practice, particularly with respect to patients whose mental health needs are complex and carry high risk, delivering services in a way consistent with the Care Programme Approach.

This includes working with care coordinators for those whose care plans are organised under CPA. The post holder is expected to liaise effectively with the other teams to ensure effective handover of care when patients transfer between services as part of the patient pathway.

General Clinical Duties of the Doctor:

1. Attend daily MDT handover meeting each morning with the multidisciplinary team, providing medical support and advice where required.
2. Work alongside the local GP surgery to ensure all service users have a full physical health screen upon admission (including examination, ECG, and blood).
3. Clerking in of new admissions
4. Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family members
5. Preparing First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearing reports under the supervision of Consultant.
6. Depending on experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of the Consultant.
7. Documenting ward rounds and CPA meetings.
8. Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.

9. Participate in the medical on call rota

Wider Duties:

1. Attend internal meetings and forums as appropriate
2. To take part in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities
3. To be registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This includes achieving and maintaining good standing for CPD in line with the requirements of the Royal College of Psychiatrist.
4. Promote and encourage effective communication and teamwork at all times.
5. Ensure that staff have opportunity to voice any issues or concerns within the services and provide/monitor appropriate forums for this.
6. Attend meetings representing EHC’s views.
7. Provide written reports as required.

8. Liaise with and regularly attend the meetings of the Senior team as appropriate.

2. Be an active, reflective participant in your own regular supervision and appraisal.
